SALT LAKE CITY — A 21-year-old man was arrested overnight in Salt Lake City after police say he fired several shots into the air during a fight with three youths.
It all started at 1:33 a.m. Thursday after SLC911 received multiple reports of shots fired in the area of 1740 W. Gertie Avenue.
“At least one 9-1-1 caller told dispatchers that the suspect had a handgun and pointed it at two others,” said a news release Thursday morning from the Salt Lake City Police Department.
Several officers quickly responded to the area and safely arrested 21-year-old Siupapa Muliaga.
Police said two other juveniles were also stopped for questioning.
“Preliminary investigation shows that Muliaga approached three youths – whose ages are unknown – and fought with them. Muliaga fired several shots from his handgun during the argument. One of the three youths was killed. fled before police arrived,” the release said.

It is also alleged, according to the release, that Muliaga punched two of the youths before the police arrived.
The police said that the young people involved were released after the officers took them home.
“During their investigation, officers located the handgun allegedly in Muliaga’s possession,” the release said.
Muliaga was booked into the Salt Lake Metro County Jail for felony discharge of a firearm and discharge of a firearm.
