In an exclusive interview, Flickering Myth sat down with Freddy Giorlando to discuss acting, life in Los Angeles and producing Hollywood movies…

Hi Freddy, welcome to Flickering Myths! How did your family react to your career choice and success in the entertainment industry? Was it always your dream to be an actor?

Thanks for having me, I appreciate being able to share my story on your site. My family has always been very supportive of my choice to become an actor, even when I started producing films on the road they supported me. I am so grateful for the love and support of my family.

My mother always instilled in me that I can do anything as long as I stay positive and have a vision. Its motto is PPP: “Pray, Be Well and Take Pictures”. It instilled in me a spirit that helped shape the person I continue to be. My father always reminded me to work hard and strive to be the best at what I did. I liked his work ethic. I have a great relationship with my two younger siblings. They continue to stand by me and have always been there for me on my journey. I am very thankful for the family I have. They mean a lot to me. My pride and joy and the fuel for everything I do is my 14 year old son Anthony. He is a constant reminder to stay on my path and keep working hard. I want to be an example that everything in life is possible with hard work, faith and vision.

To be honest, it wasn’t always my dream to be an actor. With that being said though, I always did school plays growing up and really enjoyed it a lot. It wasn’t until I was 21 that I decided to give acting a career. I ended up going to my first acting class on my 21st birthday. It has been an amazing journey to say the least. Acting has helped me discover myself as an individual and continue to do so. I really enjoy working with adults, all I want to do is to get better as an actor and as a person, to keep learning and growing.

Congratulations on your “Replica” role. Can you tell us about the role you played?

Thank you! The role was a fun role. I play this character Boomer. Who are most neo-nazi thugs. The character appears in an important scene that connects the two main characters to the rest of the film. I don’t want to say too much as I don’t want to give too much away. We kicked off the 10th anniversary of the Chelsea Film Festival in October so we’re really excited about that.

How did you prepare yourself as an actor?

In a role like that, I ask myself what I want from the scene, prepare hard, and try to leave that day and be there. I like the aspect of showing characters from different places like. I learn a lot about myself and other people in the process. At the end of the day though, for me it’s about telling the truth and serving the story when I work with the director and my friends. It’s a team sport

Do you have a favorite type of movie? If yes, can you explain?

I have always been interested in Dramas and Rom Dramas. I love stories that shed light on the human condition as well as shine light and awareness on topics that aren’t often discussed. I love inspirational movies as well as good old movies from back in the day. Sundays I usually spend relaxing if I can and watching movies all day. Movies are very therapeutic for me and have always played a big role in my life. For as long as I can remember I have gone to the movie theater to get lost in the world. I used to watch movies as a kid on repeat with my grandfather because he always recorded them for me and I would watch them back on VHS. Same with my father. He used to take me to the theater to watch great movies like Forrest GumpQaving Private Ryan and very few others. That’s how my father and I bonded. I just love movies and everything about them.

Are there any actors or directors you would like to work with in the future? Any actor you would like to play alongside?

There is more and more! The list is never ending honestly. I am really in awe of great filmmakers and actors. A few directors that come to mind are Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, David O’ Russell, Cameron Crowe, Richard Linklater, Paul Thomas Anderson, Damian Chazelle and the Safdie brothers. I worked with Mr. Scorsese’s pilot episode of The HBO Show Vinylbut I would like you to share more deeply with him. For me to choose actors is really difficult, many people are surprised, but if I had to choose a few I would say Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Bradley Cooper, Matthew McConaughey, Margot Robbie, Meryl Streep, Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise. I would really like to work with new actors who have appeared in the industry in the last 5-10 years or recently such as Jon Bernthal, Jonathan Majors, LaKeith Stanfield, Glenn Powell, Ana De Armas, and Anya Taylor-Joy.

I understand that you also produce films. Tell us about some of your latest ones?

Well I currently have 5 projects that I have starred in and/or produced that are currently on the film festival circuit. We are equally proud of them all. In the past year I was able to produce and act in my first video for “Replica” which we just talked about and produce two films. An American hero and Blessed acting in movies Over the Horizon and The well.

I currently have my own production company Shicken Productions specializing in Film/TV, Events and Marketing and I also partner with Manny McCord and Josh Ehrhardt in our company Crimson Moon Cinema which has really taken off in the last year. We offer feature films as well as commercials and documentaries as well.

I like to produce projects that I believe in and most importantly to produce good people. What “success” means to me right now is to be blessed to be able to wake up another day to do what I love, the people I love to take care of the people I love. As a producer I want to create new trends but also continue to bring quality work to the big screen. The current landscape is now so saturated that everyone is consuming content at the most amazing rate that anyone has ever done so on streaming platforms and as such it creates an opportunity for more creators to get stories out there. It’s exciting times now! I am here to play my part in whatever way I can by ensuring that quality stories continue to be told to the public.

Currently I am doing my first film as a director titled Ah Johnny I am attached as a video drama producer. Stay tuned for those!

Do you like to relax in front of the camera?

I honestly consider myself a workaholic. I like to work and see things come to fruition. Apart from being in front of the camera, I enjoy producing and working with good people and helping people. If I’m not acting or producing, I’m just trying to be better as a person to bring the best of myself to those around me. I enjoy connecting the dots and helping others. That is very fulfilling for me. Holidays mean nothing to me anymore. I have my day off I give myself to relax and enjoy movies when I can but apart from that I love what I do every day is a big adventure. I’m glad I’m able to work when I can!

Finally, any advice you would give to any actor trying to break into the entertainment industry?

I just tell new actors who want to make an impact just to work hard, believe and stick to your vision. To consistently make consistent choices every day that align with your goals and purpose. I truly believe that anything is possible. As I got older I was able to enjoy the process so I would also say just enjoy the adventure. This journey is what makes you who you were meant to be. Trust the process…God got you.

How can people find and follow your journey?
