Tina Forte, the QAnon-promoting Republican challenger for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s seat, argued Thursday that it’s not just her opponents’ constituents who support her, but also the “Latino community.”
In a Newsmax interview that also featured Steven Elliott, the GOP candidate facing Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) in November, Forte said her strategy to defeat overwhelming favorite Ocasio-Cortez involves going from door to door.
“I walked through the neighborhood. I knock on the door. i talk to people I don’t want it anymore,” Forte said.
“I have her constituents supporting me. Democrats support me. Ruben Diaz supported me,” she apparently said Referring to a 79-year-old Bronx politician who has publicly opposed abortion and same-sex marriage.
“The Latino community supports me on AOC because of her radical leftist agenda,” said Forte, whose campaign website lists no endorsements.
In 2020, Ocasio-Cortez won re-election in New York’s nearly half-Hispanic 14th Congressional District with over 71% of the vote. That year, she was approved de Mijente, a grassroots organization for “Latino and Chicanx people seeking racial, economic, gender and climate justice,” according to its website.
The Daily Beast revealed Wednesday that Forte’s husband and son were caught in a federal drug and gun bust in 2019 that resulted in both pleading guilty.
