House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy on Friday detailed his “America’s Promise” agenda, which includes policies to fight inflation, illegal immigration and only allow women to participate in women’s sports. during a press event in Monongahela, Pennsylvania.
McCarthy, R-Calif., has teased the agenda for months with promises that could help restore the House majority and a plan to govern by 2023. The agenda includes general policy recommendations in four broad areas. : “Economy That’s Strong;” “A Safe Nation” “A Future Built on Freedom;” and “Accountable Government.”
The agenda follows the “American Deal” playbook that helped former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, R-Ga., win the GOP majority in the 1990s. Gingrich will attend a meeting Thursday with Republicans as they develop the agenda.
McCarthy sat down with GOP Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik and GOP Whip Steve Scalise on “Fox and Friends” Friday morning in Washington State, Pennsylvania, to discuss the pledge and share their message with voters ahead of the midterms.

The GOP leader said the plan is about addressing the “challenges” facing everyday Americans.
“We want to make a plan for a new direction. We want to confront the American people. We want an election to be different. If they trust us, this is exactly what we’re going to do. Feet to the fire, one day. And first, we’re going to fire 87,000 IRS agents. So they’re not going for you. We work for you, you don’t work for us,” McCarthy said.
“For the past two years, Democrats in Washington have led America off the rails,” reads the introduction to McCarthy’s document. “They have created crisis after crisis: from crippling inflation and rampant crime, to failing schools, border chaos, and the disrespect of our nation around the world.”
“America’s Promise represents a new direction and a better way to get our nation back on track,” she added.
On inflation, the agenda states that Republicans will curb government spending that raises the price of food, gas, cars, and housing, and increases our national debt.
On safety, she said the GOP would fund border security, fund the police, “defund” leftist prosecutors and establish a “China Select Committee.”
The agenda also promises to “advance the Parental Rights Act,” ensure “only women can compete in women’s sports,” ban proxy voting in Congress, increase government oversight and promote domestic energy.

Republicans familiar with the plan say it’s the culmination of more than a year of work, starting with the GOP-only “China Task Force.” McCarthy liked that model and pitched it to several other players earlier this year, including finance, technology, health, energy and more.
Some of the policies Republicans are recommending in “America’s Promise” are very specific, and Republicans know the plan. Among them is the Parental Rights Act. Others are general, including accountability for progressive regulators.
Republicans familiar with the plan also noted that “America’s Promise” is the first GOP central agenda published in multiple languages, Spanish and English.
Democrats on Friday launched their attacks on McCarthy’s plan, calling it “the worst MAGA agenda.”
“House Republicans are doubling down on the extreme MAGA agenda: to criminalize women’s health care, to kill Medicare for seniors (including the elimination of low drug prices for seniors in the Inflation Reduction Act) , and an attack on our democracy,” according to a press release from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

McCarthy will be in Pittsburgh on Friday with other members to officially launch “America’s Promise.”
The agenda comes at a critical time in the midterms. Republicans gained an advantage because of the shaky economy and President Biden’s low approval ratings. But Democrats claimed some new momentum after Roe v. Wade was thrown out by the Supreme Court and the legal problems are increasing Former US President Donald Trump.
