A multi-million pound yacht reportedly owned by a prominent Russian oligarch has been towed by German authorities.
The ship has been linked to Russian billionaire and friend of Vladimir Putin Alisher Usmanov, NDR media reported.
Mr Usmanov, 69, was added to the European Union’s sanctions list after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The 500-foot giant ship Dilbar, seized in March, was towed from the port of Hamburg to Bremen on Tuesday night.
Considering the ship is three times the length of an Olympic swimming pool with two helipads, a garden and more, the Lürssen shipbuilder has moved its headquarters to the Weser River to free up space.
Mr Usmanov, one of the 100 richest people in the world, is currently under investigation over suspicions that he took illegal money.
Yesterday more than 250 soldiers searched an abandoned lakeside house linked to Usmanov in the holiday town of Rottach-Egern, Tegernsee.
Usmanov’s press department said in a statement: ‘Any allegations of tax evasion against Mr Usmanov are baseless, false and damaging to his dignity, honor and reputation, which Mr Usmanov will defend to the fullest extent of the law. that can be used.’
He is at the center of two separate investigations into his German finances.
Prosecutors in Frankfurt allege that the businessman used a ‘broad and complex network of companies and companies’ to hide multi-million-euro transactions between 2017 and 2022.
It includes his wealth and a large ship, they claim.
“Any allegations that Mr Usmanov used shell companies to get shares are false and defamatory,” said Mr Usmanov’s press service.
The properties in question are in family trusts, from which Mr Usmanov did not benefit.
Dilbar, said to be worth around half a million pounds, was placed in a safe that federal police said had one beneficiary: Mr Usmanov’s sister Gulbakhor Ismailova.
Mrs Lavorva, the wife of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, is also on the sanctions list.
The ship is flagged in the Cayman Islands and registered to a holding company in Malta, both going to tax havens for the ultra-rich.
The giant ship was named after Mr Usmanov’s mother.
Dilbar was initially detained in Hamburg temporarily until April when the Bundeskriminalamt, the federal police force, arrested him.
In another investigation, the Munich regional prosecutor accused Mr Usmanov of hiring a security company to protect a property in Upper Bavaria with which he was financially linked.
Mr Usmanov is one of Russia’s most influential people, owning metals firm Metalloinvest, media company Kommersant and mobile phone provider Megafon.
