West Ham have had a disappointing start to the season as they find themselves penultimate in the Premier League. They have won just one of their six games, beating Aston Villa 1-0. Despite spending over £160m in the transfer market to bring in reinforcements, the east London club are in relegation alongside Nottingham Forest and Leicester City.
Concerns grow for West Ham United
The Hammers need to reinvent themselves and David Moyes needs to act fast if he doesn’t want to risk turning the fans around. Former Premier League and West Ham defender Nigel Winterburn had a lot to say when asked about the emergency as he was disappointed with the club’s poor performance.
“West Ham have signed players and I’m surprised by their poor start, but it can happen to teams,” he told Paddy Ball. “You have to be the right size and the right formation, but you also have to have that belief.
“When you don’t win games, players lose confidence and it’s hard to get that back. David Moyes needs to earn money now because he’s done so well for West Ham, but he needs to inspire this team and the let get back on their feet.If they’re still struggling after 10 games, West Ham fans might be a little nervous.
“He did an amazing job and now he just has to point them in the right direction.” as described in Football.London
What should David Moyes play?
Bringing in new players can be very difficult as they adapt to different styles of play and different leagues. English football is undoubtedly demanding, but others who stay at the club for a long time need to perform consistently.
Declan Rice is out of form as he takes a place in the England squad and heads into the international break. The defenders felt hard and lacked motivation, while the forwards failed to find the back of the goal when they had a chance up front. Michail Antonio and Gianluca Scamacca weren’t good in the final third.
The Hammers don’t have enough goal threat, their lack of creativity in the midfield area and inability to keep a clean sheet means their defense is poor, so Moyes needs to make the necessary adjustments to the formation if they hope to recover from this disaster and hopefully steer the club in a better direction. The international break will give the tacticians plenty of time to find solutions for the team and hopefully do better in the next games to move up the ranks.
