Paddington has become an important part of the Queen’s legacy, even if ‘corgis were there first’, Prince William said.

The king mentioned a fictional bear when speaking to crowd control officials during the late king’s funeral on Monday.

Thousands gathered near Windsor Castle as the Queen’s coffin made its way through the gates and down the Long Walk.

The sight of the queen waiting patiently for the procession brought tears to the eyes of the onlookers.

But while dogs will be fondly remembered as part of her legacy, other creatures have claimed some of their light.

Prince William joked that Paddington Bear has become an “addition” to what people bring to the Queen’s memorial as he spoke to Windsor Castle managers today.

He told funeral workers he ‘choked’ when he saw the bear-based tribute to the Queen.

The queen’s performance opposite this dynamic actor was a highlight of this year’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Paddington toys and cards have adorned tributes across the country since her death.

But Prince William made sure he didn’t forget the legacy of his grandmother’s dogs Muick, Candy and Sandy when he spoke to representatives today.

‘Corgis have been around for a long time,’ he reminded.
